Chapter 7
The moment he killed Ettore, Seojun lost control of his body, and a cutscene began.
"You hypocritical hound of the Assassin Guild! I won't go alone!"
"!"
But Dain, who was controlling his body now instead of Seojun, failed to react immediately. Ettore, with a body on the verge of death, ran into the bedroom and tore apart a certain parchment.
KWA-A-A-ANG!
A violent explosion erupted nearby, and the air turned red as if it were burning.
"Damn it!"
When Dain looked out the window, nearby buildings were exploding one after another, flames and shattered wood scattering everywhere.
And at this rate, the next one would beβ
Crash!
The moment he realized it, Dain threw himself through the window and escaped outside.
Behind him, the screen showed Ettore laughing.
KWA-A-A-ANG!
The instant Dain shattered the window and leapt out, an enormous explosion erupted behind him, and the flames scorched his back.
BEEEEEEP!
A ringing noise spread through his ears, and by the time his blurred vision slowly began to focus while his face lay pressed against the grassβ
"Over here! The terrorist is here!"
From afar, vaguely, he could see soldiers rushing toward him.
Even in his dizzy state, Dain desperately forced himself up and started running.
He climbed over the mansion wall, stumbled face-first onto the ground, then got back up and fled across the rooftops.
A chase unfolded.
As the distance between them gradually widened and Dain's vision became clearer again, an arrow flying from behind pierced his shoulder.
Then a barrage of fireball magic struck him directly.
In the end, Dain, his body utterly battered, fell into the river beside him.
Someone of unknown identity watched the scene.
The soldiers saw him fall from the rooftop and judged him dead before turning back. Then the scene shifted.
A man stood blankly staring at the sea.
As he rose to head somewhere, a black shape washed ashore by the waves caught his eye.
The man slowly approached the figure and realized it was a corpse.
Leisurely searching the body, he pulled out a brooch engraved with an eagle soaring through the skyβthe symbol of freedomβand slipped it into his pocket.
After regaining control of his body, Seojun checked the chat first.
The cutscenes haven't changed at all TTTTDain dies every timeWhy is the protagonist looting corpses kekekeke
Then he finally said what he had wanted to say since earlier.
"If it were me, I would've deflected the arrows and magic."
Destroyer of emotional moments β‘ kekekekekekeHonestly sounds believable
"No, seriously. Watching that happen using my face is too much."
20γ γ He totally deserved to die kekeke
After checking the chat's reaction, Seojun clapped his hands.
"Alright, so what do I do now?"
His current location was a tavern.
Christina, whom he had seen during the tutorial, was wiping cups.
"It really feels like the game's screaming at me to talk to herβ¦"
Seojun approached her. As soon as he got close, auto-progression started again.
"Customer? Do you need something?"
"Need something? Yeah. A whole lot."
Christina showed signs of caution, and Seojun pulled out the brooch from his pocket and slammed it onto the table.
Startled, Christina hurriedly grabbed the brooch and hid it.
Then she glanced around to make sure the other customers hadn't seen it. Confirming no one seemed suspicious, she quickly led Seojun into the kitchen where they could be alone.
"Who are you?"
"Relax. I just came because I thought I could help."
"What⦠are you talking about?"
"I'm good with requests. Especially assassinations."
"β¦How much do you know?"
"Everything. The sickening history between your Assassin Guild and the secret societies formed by the ruling elite. Their goals. Their wars. I know it all. Because I fought those society bastards in Zion before."
"You⦠don't tell me you're from the west?"
"That's right."
"Mercenaries who'll do anything for money⦠then there's no way you'd side with the societies. Fine. Then let's introduce ourselves. I'm Christina."
"I'mβ¦"
Seojun's mouth regained its freedom.
Oh, is he finally choosing a nickname?Wait, was Jin Seojun literally your streamer name this whole time?Real names aren't bad though lol
Right now, Seojun's streamer name was simply his real name. He had never set anything else.
Streamer names could be anythingβsomething ordinary like Kim Taewoo, the name of a percussion instrument, or even a modified catchphrase. They were incredibly flexible.
'Using my real name is the safest option.'
He didn't even know how long he'd keep streaming anyway, so why bother overthinking it?
And as for his in-game nicknameβ
"My name is Mumyung."
[Would you like to use 'Mumyung'?]
It was a buzzword from his previous life.
Mumyung. Despite literally meaning "nameless," it somehow sounded cool and mysterious, which made it popular in his previous life.
[Yes]
"Alright then, Mumyung."
"How should I contact you when necessary?"
"Wait. Before that, I need to know where the owner of this brooch is."
"I buried him at the western docks."
"I see. Alright."
Even after hearing of her comrade's death, Christina reacted calmly.
It was probably meant to indirectly show just how easily people could die in the line of work they belonged to.
[From now on, you may accept assassination requests at the 'Sun Tavern'!]
"Use this for contact."
[You have obtained 'Signal Stone'!]
Seojun received the item called Signal Stone and stepped outside the tavern.
Why Mumyung out of nowhere? So the streamer's nickname is Mumyung now?How is someone literally named Nameless kekekekekeke
"Ah, Mumyung is just my in-game nickname. I still haven't decided on a stream name, so I'll just stick with this for now. Call me whatever you want."
[Jin Seojun β 6 viewers watching]
Seoha!Kyah! Mumyung! That nickname totally suits an assassin! GOAT!
"Alright! Then I'll end the stream here. I'll stream again at the same time tomorrow. Trβ cough, ahem, Tr-bye."
Shouting "Tr-bye" felt embarrassingly cheesy to Seojun, so he stumbled over the words.
Kekekekekeke cuteTr-byeDefinitely coming tomorrow
"Uh, wait. If I just exit like this, does it save?"
Games were really difficult in weird ways.
Absolutely not because he was getting old.
Kekekekekeke weren't you leaving? You can just close it. Seriously.Ah, this newbie bastard kekekekeke anyone would think it's your first game ever
Flash!
"Hey."
"Hm?"
"Is this you?"
[A newbie who's never streamed or played games before perfectly parries thirteen enemies at once during the tutorial, wipes out the mobs, and becomes the first person in the universe to kill Ettore (Not fake, seriously)]
Taewoo clicked the phone screen and checked the video.
"That's obviously you no matter how you look at it."
The place they entered was the Assassin Guild's Dawn community.
The reason was because of a strange message that had appeared in Seojun's chat a little earlier.
You should've come earlier lol, you missed it kekekekeke
While reviewing the stream, Seojun thought he hadn't seen that message during the broadcast itself. When he checked the timestamp, it had been posted several minutes after the stream ended.
So he scrolled upward through the chat.
Is this the stream with the crazy solo carry gameplay? Why is the stream offline?
There were many similar messages too.
Seojun was confused. There was no reason people should still be visiting after the stream had already ended.
Well, unless it was a famous large-scale streamer. People still flocked to those channels even when they were offline.
But Seojun's stream had only peaked at six viewers.
So he asked Taewoo, whose stream had ended around the same time, and that was how they found the post.
[A newbie who's never streamed or played games before perfectly parries thirteen enemies at once during the tutorial, wipes out the mobs, and becomes the first person in the universe to kill Ettore (Not fake, seriously)]
(Video of the 1 vs 13 fight)
(Video of the world-first Ettore clear)
A user named Joseon's Assassin had painstakingly clipped and uploaded the footage.
'It's that viewer from before.'
He had been quite memorable. From noticing Seojun's skill early on to spamming the chat nonstop.
Seojun scrolled down and read the comments.
Yeah right lol the title alone screams fakeJoseon's Assassin is seriously cracked at parrying lol this is god-tierYou're seriously calling yourself a newbie? At least have some shame
γ΄Wait, was his skill always this insane?
γ΄Not him. It was Lord Mumyung. The title's not fake at all.
"What kind of viewer promotes someone on the very first day after getting a world first clear? Amazing."
Taewoo muttered in disbelief while reading beside him.
"Promotes?"
"Yeah. If this isn't promotion, then what is?"
Taewoo scrolled further down and pointed at another comment.
Looks like Joseon's Assassin even upgraded his avatar because he started streaming. His old face was seriouslyβ¦
γ΄LMAO sneaking in an insult so naturally
"Wait, no, not that."
So who even is this guy?
γ΄Here (channel link) hurry up and watch. This dude is absolutely insane.
Is this really the first Ettore clear?
γ΄Yeah lol. He was a newbie who couldn't even climb walls properly.
γ΄How is that even possible lol
Mr. Joseon's Assassin, veteran with 10,000 hours in Assassin Guild's Dawn. Please stop pretending to be a newbie.
"I'm telling you, it's not me!"
Even though the comment was aimed at Joseon's Assassin, Seojun still felt oddly guilty hearing the phrase "pretending to be a newbie." But he really was a newbie at Assassin Guild's Dawn, so whatever.
Damn, his skills really are insane though
γ΄The stream just ended, but at least go watch the VOD (channel link). Lord Mumyung is the hope of solo carry gameplay!
Now Seojun finally understood what Taewoo meant.
"So this is why you call it promotion?"
"Pretty much. Your followers probably increased already."
Taewoo was right.
His follower count, which had been six, had somehow risen past sixty.
[Followers: 68]
"Oh."
"And it'll probably hit the Top 30 soon. Once that happens, it'll explode way harder. Anyway, I'm going to sleep."
On the community site, there was a feature that separated posts with recommendations from over thirty users.
And since most people who casually browsed the community mainly checked the Top 30 posts, the view count difference between a Top 10 post and a Top 30 post was massive.
"Alright. Sleep well."
A strange sense of anticipation welled up inside Seojun.
Just as Taewoo predicted, the recommendation count on Joseon's Assassin's post exceeded thirty.
And then, as usual, the community burst into flames.
What newbie? This is fake as hell.
γ΄Then how exactly would someone fake it?
γ΄Does our friend here not know what video editing is? haha
γ΄So you're saying a streamer with six viewers hacked the Travel server? LMAOOOO honestly that's more impressive than killing Ettore.
People are way too gullible. They really believe this? "Lord Mumyung" my ass lol
[Why Lord Mumyung's video is fake]
====
Because I can't do it myself!
====
LOOOOOOOOL the people calling it fake are just jealous. But honestly, wouldn't any decent pro be able to do that? These guys really changed their script. "It's fake" β "Anyone can do it."
[Why Lord Mumyung's video is legendary]
There are several reasons why veterans couldn't kill Ettore for an entire week.
First, according to the setting, Dain is basically an ordinary person, so he can't use skills. That's why you have to play the tutorial without skills too.
(Probably intentional by the devs.)
Second, Ettore uses a mace, which has no parry instant-kill mechanic. Meaning there's no one-shot. (Though that applies to most bosses anyway. Only assassinations have instant kills.)
Third, and honestly the biggest issue, is the time attack.
Surviving while fighting normally? Most veterans could probably do that.
But dodging everything while continuously striking the same spot within five minutes?
That's impossible unless you pull off tricks like the ones in that video.
Before seeing that footage, most people thought it was impossible. Nobody had ever properly tested how absurdly high the damage scaling could get.
And the pros were busy.
That streamer named Seojun clearing it in one try is insane skill-wise. Seriously, who grabs a mace at that distance, nullifies every attack, and slices the boss's throat?
And he's a newbie? What the hell even is this guy?
I could only watch in awe. He's literally a god of controls. Seriously, who even thinks of grabbing the weapon and counterattacking like that lolololol
Subscribed instantly.
Anyway, now that we know killing Ettore is actually possible, I'm gonna try it too. (Can't resist this.)
Though honestly, I don't think I can pull it off.
The conclusion of this post: the pros were just busy, and Seojun isn't actually that amazing.
γ΄This bastard is genuinely suffocating.
γ΄Just watch the video once. He'd smoke most pros.
γ΄You're exaggerating like crazy. Just because he got a world first?
Upvote for the analysis.
[Why are people making such a huge fuss over a world first anyway lol? Hardly anyone even challenged it.]
This was definitely written by someone who's never played the game before. The forced hate is insane.
Because of Joseon's Assassin's influence, Seojun started being called "Lord Mumyung," and people everywhere kept talking about him.
Eventually, everyone arrived at the same conclusion.
[If you think Mumyung should turn on his stream right now and prove himself, upvote lol]
The stream hasn't even been over for three hours yet.
γ΄Doesn't matter. I'm holding my breath until he streams again. Don't ever turn the stream on. If someone dies waiting, it'll only be Lord Mumyung's loss. (Post author)
γ΄(This comment has already been deleted.)
γ΄Can someone explain to this idiot what exactly Mumyung loses from that?
